Play Therapy
Play therapy is a type of therapy primarily used with children under the age of 12, but it can be used with teens and adults. It is typically used with those who have experienced a negative or traumatic event, or who are coping with significant personal issues. The goal of therapy is to help the child express thoughts or emotions that he or she may not be able to communicate verbally through play with toys. Play with toys helps the child to express his or her feelings and foster healthier behaviors. Dolls, Legos, sports equipment, stuffed animals, and art materials are common tools used in play therapy.
Play therapy is often used to treat grief or loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, depression, and anxiety disorders.
