Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) helps people improve their mental and emotional state by encouraging self-compassion and compassion for others. This type of therapy is based on the belief that the ability to experience compassion is the basis for well-being, having a profound affect on our behaviors, emotions, and beliefs.

CFT therapists help clients to develop aspects of compassion that include sensitivity to, and sympathy and tolerance for, others. Sessions might include exercises to increase a client’s ability to “live in the moment”, have gratitude, and be mindful.

This type of therapy benefits clients who experience depression or anxiety, who engage in self-harming behaviors, have eating disorders, or anger management difficulties.
