Bereavement is a term used to describe the process of recovery from the passing of a loved one. Grief is a term used to refer to one’s reaction to any type of loss, including job or home loss, a divorce, or a significant health diagnosis. Both can lead to painful, lasting emotions: depression, deep sadness, anger, regret, anxiety, guilt, feelings of emptiness, and more.

Everyone experiences bereavement and grief in their own way – it’s complex and personal. And while there’s no right or wrong way to process how you feel, some behaviors and thoughts can be more helpful than others.
