Mindfulness-based therapy is also recognized as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Based on the original work of Jon Cabat-Zinn’s mindfulness-based stress reduction program, it is a therapeutic approach that combines cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes.

The goal of therapy is to help people who are chronically unhappy or who have recurring bouts of depression learn to use mindfulness meditation to counteract negative thought patterns that can trigger depression, low mood, and fatigue.
